8 Home Decor Trends of 2018

Home decor is something I love.  I’m not really sure why.  Maybe it was  too many HGTV shows or issues of Southern Living magazine.  Either way, the quest to make my home feel like a place we want to be in AND a place we can proud of is something I am constantly doing.  There are so many beautiful things that inspire a change or tweaking in a room.  Plus, I tend to like changing things up now and again.

To me, the most important thing about home decor is that it feels comfortable and reflects the people who live in it.  So even though I might think a beautifully styled, formal living room is lovely to look at, I would not want to live in it.

I don’t really subscribe to the idea that we need to follow trends in home decor.  On the other hand, I’ve seen many homes or rooms that are seriously dated and don’t feel right either.  In addition, as we grow and change our tastes do as well.  I no longer like all the styles or colors that I chose for our home when we first got married.  The reds and golds that I used in my home for a while no longer appeal to me either.

Therefore, knowing what the trends are is important.  If I am considering making changes in room,  I might want to incorporate some.  At the same time, I would never choose to use a style just because it’s trendy.

Okay, enough preaching.  Let me share with you what Pinterest says are going to be the big trends in home decor for 2018.  Some of these we’ve been seeing for a while and they are sticking around.  However, some are new on the scene.  If you want to know how they make their predictions, I wrote about it here.

  1. I am ready to get rid of the sage green, looking for good grays.

Look at you….you were ahead of the trend! I don’t think yours was a true sage though…. Still, change is fun.

  2. Thank you for sharing this. Surprisingly I like all the trends. Would also like to try a highlight ceiling. Love the house plants – truly different AND look like they may be difficult to kill 😂 Grew up in a home with terrazzo floors throughout the first floor. The ONLY issue is that it is hard on your feet/back.
Looks like 2018 will be a great year!! Thanks again.

I know…that ceiling idea…I love it. However, it’s also scary…could it overwhelm a space? make it feel closed in or smaller? Do you go bold or subtle? SO many things to think through…
      So glad you stopped by.

  3. Saw this on the Friday Farmhouse Link Party. Great post. Love what’s happening in 2018! Now I don’t feel so out of place with some of our ceilings!

Thanks for visiting! I know, these trends seem very do-able. So, do you have painted ceilings?

      1. There’s a navy ceiling in the guest bathroom which has pale gray walls. Get tons of compliments on it. 😉

  4. Hi! I’m popping over from the Link It Up Wednesday at Raven Would. Painted bold ceilings are appealing because they are easy to re-claim to neutral. I also love sage green!

That’s true. It’s always easy to change paint. However, I bet painting a ceiling is hard on your arms. You may not want to do that more than once!

I always love to hear what's on your mind. Please comment below!
