Home decor is something I love. I’m not really sure why. Maybe it was too many HGTV shows or issues of Southern Living magazine. Either way, the quest to make my home feel like a place we want to be in AND a place we can proud of is something I am constantly doing. There are so many beautiful things that inspire a change or tweaking in a room. Plus, I tend to like changing things up now and again.
To me, the most important thing about home decor is that it feels comfortable and reflects the people who live in it. So even though I might think a beautifully styled, formal living room is lovely to look at, I would not want to live in it.
I don’t really subscribe to the idea that we need to follow trends in home decor. On the other hand, I’ve seen many homes or rooms that are seriously dated and don’t feel right either. In addition, as we grow and change our tastes do as well. I no longer like all the styles or colors that I chose for our home when we first got married. The reds and golds that I used in my home for a while no longer appeal to me either.
Therefore, knowing what the trends are is important. If I am considering making changes in room, I might want to incorporate some. At the same time, I would never choose to use a style just because it’s trendy.
Okay, enough preaching. Let me share with you what Pinterest says are going to be the big trends in home decor for 2018. Some of these we’ve been seeing for a while and they are sticking around. However, some are new on the scene. If you want to know how they make their predictions, I wrote about it here.
Home Trends of 2018
Mixed metals will continue to be big.
The 5th Wall ~ bold ceilings
Herringbone patterns in tile and wood
Statement doors (think bold colors)
Large wall art
Sage green is the new neutral
Whew! That was a lot of photos. I hope that gives you an idea of where home decor is headed for 2018. Some of these I really like. I may have to try a bold ceiling. That’s something I’ve never done before. So, which of these are you favorites?
