Boxycharm Beauty Subscription

An honest review of Boxycharm, a beauty subscription service.

Boxycharm Beauty Subscription

Hi there.  How’s your week going?  As per usual, mine is busy, busy, busy.  I am missing the freedom of summer.  However, fall is approaching and I do love that season!  I love the cooler temps. and football season.  So, have you noticed how many subscription services have been popping up the last couple of years?  I have.  You can subscribe to services that send you everything from clothes to scrapbooking supplies.  I’ve never really been interested in trying them, but maybe that’s because I live near two big cities where I can find anything I want pretty easily.  However, if you live farther away from those conveniences I can see how a subscription service would be awesome.  Still, in the name of “research” and helping out my friends, I decided to try Boxy Charm and report back to you.  Want to know more?

I tried Boxycharm subscription and am sharing all the details.

So, I stumbled upon Boxycharm online, probably through someone’s blog post.  Sorry I can’t remember where exactly.  I headed right over to their site because I was intrigued.  Boxycharm is a beauty product subscription service.  You subscribe and they send one box a month to your house.  Each box promises to contain over $100 in full-size, retail products.  If you visit their site , you will find how it works:

In each box you will receive 4 to 5 full-size beauty items (instead of the tiiiiiiny little samples) ranging from makeup to skincare, beauty tools to color cosmetics and each box has a value of $100 and up. Brands range from emerging to established, and you’re guaranteed to find a few new favorites in each box.

The cost starts at $21 a month if you go monthly.  If you agree to a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription, the cost goes down.

I signed up to try it for a month with Boxycharm so that I could let you know about it.  Also,  it doesn’t hurt that I am always up for trying new makeup products. 🙂  As you know, makeup gets expensive. I thought this was an inexpensive way to try a few things.

My box arrived and I was excited to see what was in it.

As you can see, this Boxycharm box contains (and the value):

  • Electric Eyes-Palette by Blinc ($45)
  • Ultra-Matte Lip by ColorPop ($6)
  • Invisible Light Translucent Powder Duo by Bare Minerals ($32)
  • Uni-Brow Universal Eyebrow Pencil by WinkyLux ($12)
  • Spray. Set. Go. Makeup Setting Spray by Project Beauty ($32)

So, I needed a new eyebrow pencil and every time I went in to Ulta, the one I wanted was sold out.  I guess you could say it was serendipitous that the pencil arrived when it did.  AND, even better…I like it.

On the lip front, I’ve yet to be able to turn off my desire for a new lip color.  It’s an instant pick me up ~ especially if you can get the right color.  I’ve not heard of ColorPop, but I do like this lip product.  It’s light, smooth, and finishes matte.  In addition, I love the berry color.  It’s a win.

This eye palette is pretty.  The colors are very trendy and they all have a metallic look.  The card says if you go over the shadow with a setting spray, you will get an intense, foiled look.  That could be fun for a night out.  Verdict?  I like it and I am going to enjoy trying out the new colors.  If you like Urban Decay, you would like this as well.

I’ve used Bare Minerals products before, but I’m not really up on all the latest products so I am not familiar with this one.  However, one side is a translucent matte and the other has a subtle glow without sparkle or shimmer.  I love the contour palette that I’ve been using all summer especially the highlighter.  This product is much softer than that, but I think it will be good in the winter.

And the final product, the setting spray.  I think this will be so handy to keep in my bag to refresh my makeup during the day.

So, what’s my final thought on Boxycharm?  I think it was a pretty good deal.  For only twenty bucks you get to try several new products and the majority were brands I know.  The quality is good and it was fun to get a ‘surprise’ in the mail.  Have you ever tried a subscription service?  Which one?  Do you think this is one you might try?  I’d love to hear all about in the comments below.  And, as always, you can sign up to join my email list here so that you never have to miss a post.

  1. I am desperate (but too broke at the mo) to try a subscription box, basically because I love getting presents and this would be like having a little birthday every month, and I love to read about them. And this seems like a great one, thanks for the review.

ha ha! I totally get that. Well when you have an extra $20 this might be a good one to try. You’re right. It was like getting a present

  2. I did try ipsy because i do love makeup. However, I got colors that didnt work with my coloring so I discontinued it. I am a faithful Stitch Fix subscriber. LOVE it! And I’ve started a new one called Natalie Attired. It is also clothing and so far I like it too.
I see a couple of items that you got that I would like to try. 🙂

hmmm…I’ve never heard of ipsy. I did try Stitch Fix. It was hit and miss for me. Thanks for popping in today.

  3. I have bad allergies so I only use all natural makeup. It was nice that the subscription included Bare Minerals. It is a wondeful makeup line.

  4. What a great idea! Will have to look into this.

Thank you for sharing over at Waste Not Wednesday!

  5. I would love this but my daughter’s would definitely take everything – the curse of living with teenage types !!

  6. Ooh I’ve wanted to try a subscription box for a while – this one looks fab! Do they do this in the U.K. I wonder? Might have to look into it! #twinklytuesdays
