Hey there! I’m so glad you stopped by today. Valentine’s Day is going to be here before we know it. I thought I could get ahead this year instead of waiting until sometime after February 1st to give it a thought. So, I scoured the internet so I could start making plans. And, lucky for you, I’m sharing how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day with these ten awesome ideas!
Before we get to that, can I say just a couple of things on this topic? As a woman, I love the whole idea of one day to celebrate love and be romantic. If not for that day, we might not take the time or make the effort, right. However, I also think in today’s world we also lose sight of just taking the day to remind the ones we love how much they mean to us. Instead we focus on giving a gift (or hoping to get one).
I don’t know about you, but I don’t really need a thing. If there is something I want, I can go buy it for myself. I’m not saying it’s not nice to get lovely gifts. I love gifts; however, my most favorite gifts of all time were the poems written to me, the top ten list of memories given to me on an anniversary, and the sentimental key charm to add to my charm bracelet. Those gifts were all about the sentiment and made me feel truly loved. They were romantic and special. They mean more to me than the very expensive handbags I’ve been given (which I also love) or jewelry. I think most women really just want to feel special and important and loved. We’d like to hear that they would pick us all over again.
I’m no expert on this topic, but I think men would agree. I was recently reading a post where a survey was taken of men about the gifts they like to get from the women in their life. Guess what, every response with the exception of one had these top 3 gifts. Ready? Food ~ as in a lovely, romantic dinner made just for him. Time ~ as in just time to hang out and talk, play games, or whatever without distractions. And, (no surprise) time in the bedroom. For many men, this is how they show love.
So, I suggest that instead of thinking of what to get for your guy, we all think about what we can do to show them how much they mean. And you know what they say? Lead by example. That’s why the ideas I’ve rounded up are small tokens rather than gifts.
10 of the Best Valentine’s Ideas
Okay, first up… I know I would love to wake up to this one morning. Why not fill a bunch of post its with the reasons why you love him or things you love about him. Then, add a big heart to the bathroom mirror, his car windshield, or anywhere where he’s sure to see it. This is so easy to do and will really make him feel appreciated.
Get some balloons and deliver them to his office or leave them where he will find them. Deliver them with breakfast or coffee in bed. I love the idea of the Xs and Os rather than the traditional, expected hearts.
You can probably picks some of these lovely chocolate covered pretzels or make some yourself. He’ll love this salty/sweet treat. These large pretzels are adorable and festive with the pink and red sprinkles.
Another idea is to send him out the door with these little treats and his morning coffee. Not only will he have something sweet to start his day but he will feel special all day long.
I am not a fan of eating these candy hearts, but how sweet is this little love note using the candy hearts? It’s totally cheesy. It’s probably something kids do in 2nd or 3rd grade. Nonetheless, it is totally sweet as well. You can go the sweet route or spice it up for him.
Well, I couldn’t leave the expected red hearts out completely. I totally LOVE this idea. Why not give him a balloon bouquet? However, here’s the best part. Tie a tiny scroll to the bottom of each ribbon that is a little love note, a reason you love him…you get the idea.
Why not shower him with a dozen cupcakes. They say the way to his heart is through his stomach. If your man loves sweets, this would be a hit.
So, this idea is sweeter if he’s doing this for you. I don’t think most men want a jar of flowers. Still, I like the idea. You paint the hearts on the jar with your thumbprint. If you like this idea, maybe you make it with your kids’ thumbprints?? Or take the idea and use it on a coffee mug for him.
So this idea I would love to be on the receiving end. The idea of Mr. LouiseMarie making me a Valentine that he had to craft with felt, paper, glue… Well, it’s pretty priceless. You see, he is not crafty at all. If you aren’t crafty, then I imagine your guy would love your effort as well. In fact, I read an article here about a man making this card. It made me laugh as he wrote about shopping at the hobby store and working with glitter. Hop over, you’ll enjoy this quick read.
Now, even though I say it shouldn’t really be about the gift, I couldn’t resist a couple. I think this is a very romantic and meaningful gift. It’s a print with map of where you met, or had your first date, or got engaged…whatever. This is one of those really special gifts, and it’s not even expensive! Would you love to get one from your man? If so, he would like it too.
Now, I’m fairly certain that any man would love this gift. It’s called the Game of Love. It comes with a fitted bed sheet printed with a game board on it along with ideas of what to fill in on the board. Need I say more? If you are interested, you can find it here. To be honest, Valentine’s Day has always been tricky at my house as it’s also Mr. LouiseMarie’s birthday. That’s double duty for me. Moreover, he doesn’t really like sharing his birthday. I don’t blame him. However, I really haven’t been willing to give the holiday up either.
This year, we are changing things up with a countdown to Valentines’s Day. We will “celebrate” all things love from the 1st to the 13th and then his birthday will be all about him. So, I really want to come up with lots of “small” ways to celebrate. These ideas are just what I needed. If you want to follow along for our 14 days of love, I’ll be posting updates.
