Hello friends!  How has your week been?  Mine has been tough and full of drama.  More on that later.  Suffice it to say that I am desperately looking forward to the weekend.  Rain is in the forecast, and I would welcome the excuse to lounge on my couch this weekend. 🙂  Anyway, welcome to this week’s edition of Hodgepodge from From This Side of the Pond.  Joyce provides the questions and we provide our answers.

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Has your April been filled with showers? Do you carry an umbrella, wear a slicker, or make a run for it? Besides rain, what else has filled your April?
Yes, it’s spring in Texas – so lots of wild weather including rain.  I carry an umbrella just like this one but often wonder if it’s worth the hassle.  Sometimes making a run for it is easier.

2. What’s something you could you give a 30-minute presentation on at a moment’s notice and with zero preparation?

Scrapbooking.  I know, not very exciting.    I used to teach scrapbooking classes so I could easily do 30 min on that.  However, since I have scrapbooked in years, I wouldn’t make a good salesperson. 🙁  Anyone remember or still do Creative Memories?

3. Share with us a favorite food memory from childhood.

Okay, this may not be my favorite food memory, but it’s what popped into my head first.  So, I’m going to go with it…   My father was not the world’s greatest cook.  He preferred food sweet and fried.  He would make us this “spaghetti carbonara” that had bacon and tomato sauce; however he sweetened the sauce with sugar.  It wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned that that wasn’t spaghetti carbonara at all!  I was shocked to learn that is not what he had been making all those years.

4. What’s a song you thought you knew the lyrics to, but later discovered you were wrong?

This is totally embarrassing.  You know that song by Enya – Sail Away?  Just in case…here it is

For years, I thought she was saying “save a whale, save a whale, save a whale.”  Okay, stop laughing…it sounds a lot like that, really.

5. According to one travel website, the most overrated tourist attractions in America are-
Niagara Falls (NY), Hollywood Walk of Fame (California), Times Square (NYC), Epcot (FL), Seattle Space Needle (WA), and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market (Boston). How many of these have you seen in person? Did you feel like a tourist? Did you care? Tell us about a place (not on the list) you’ve visited that might be considered a tourist trap, but you love it anyway.

I’ve visited all of these except the Space Needle.  Yes I felt like a tourist.  No I didn’t care.  I was surrounded by other tourists and their cameras too.  I loved all of the Smithsonian Museums and the Library of Congress.  Tourists traps?  Maybe,  but I enjoyed every minute.  However, I also visited the Ford Theater (where Pres. Lincoln was shot).  That was a tourist trap.  Still it wasn’t as bad as the house across the street where they took Lincoln that night.  Overall all of those places are still cool to see though, right?  Well, my kids loved it anyway.

6. Your signature clothing item?

No idea….don’t think I have one.

7. What’s an experience you’ve had you think everyone should experience at least once? Why?

Whale watching.  Seeing those giants out in the open water in their homes….it is awe-inspiring and gives me such a feeling of respect for nature and animals along with a real appreciation for creation.  Therefore, I think if everyone could see things like that, people would want to take better care of our environment.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I need to start vacation planning.  I love the beach – any beach.  My kids?  Not so much.  I would; however, like to get away from the Texas heat in the summer.  Any suggestions?  I could use your help with this one.

Until next time~

  1. I remember those Creative Memory albums. I did one for my wedding and my first couple of babies. After that, life was too busy! Whale watching sounds fun. I’ve watched dolphins and walruses, but never a whale.

Yes, it’s funny how life gets in the way…. I have a bunch of completed albums, but almost nothing for my 3rd child!

Hi Annie. It sounds like you and my husband are a lot alike. If he doesn’t know the words, he makes them up too! I totally agreed with you about the emojis as well. Thanks for visiting.
