Hodgepodge Volume 323

Hodgepodge Volume 323

Hey there friends!  How is your week so far?  We’ve made it to hump day…that means it’s an easy downhill to the weekend.  My week has been full of meetings, running here and there, and putting in lots of miles on the bike. It’s a mystery to me how hard I can work out and still not have weight fall off!  Can anyone else relate?  It is so frustrating!  However, you’re not hear for that rant.  Today is Hodgepodge day.  The day where I link up with From This Side of the Pond and answer this week’s random questions.  However, my computer is sick and I am sadly using a loaner and can’t get to any pictures for this post.  Sorry about that.  You’ll have to imagine.  Anyway, read on and enjoy!

1. What pets did you have while growing up? Tell us a little something about them.

Well,  my family always had dogs…only dogs.  We had a variety of mutts ~ pretty nondescript really.  However, I do have one out of the ordinary story.  When I was very young we had a black Scottie-looking dog named Charlie.  He ran off one day and eventually we gave up on finding him.  A year later my mom was at the grocery story.  When she came out she found Charlie, covered in burrs and filthy.  However, it was him.  Weird, right?  I mean, what are the odds of that happening??

2. What is one thing you absolutely must accomplish today?

This blog post.  Honestly, I kind of feel like everything is something I have to accomplish today.  I am a victim of the tyranny of the urgent. 🙁

3. Where were you ten years ago? What were you doing there?

Ten years ago I was just starting a new career and a new chapter in my life.  When my youngest son started kindergarten, I started working.  We went to school together each day of his elementary school years.

4. September 26th is National Dumpling Day. Did you celebrate? Apple dumpling, xiao long bao (steamed Chinese dumpling), chicken and dumplings, pirogi, matzoh balls, or gnocchi…which dumpling on this list would be your dumpling of choice? Have you ever made homemade dumplings of any kind?

No I didn’t celebrate it.  They all sound pretty good.  I actually love Chinese dumplings.  Pirogies are yummy and chicken and dumplings is awesome in the winter. ha! I guess I’ve yet to meet a dumpling I didn’t like.

5. ‘There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find an adventure and those who go secretly hoping they don’t.’ William Trogdon

So which kind are you?

I am not an adventurer.  I feel guilty about that.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love to travel and explore new places.  However, I am a bit of a control freak….and adventures mean you’re not in control. (at least to me)  If I go on an adventure, I am definitely hoping we don’t find one.   I am pretty sure I don’t keep that secret either.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So, I recently tried one of those meal delivery services.  You know, the ones that drop the ingredients and recipes on your doorstep.  They take all the guess work out of what’s for dinner.  We enjoyed the meals we made – they were yummy.  However, I feel like it is a very expensive option.  Way more than simply buying your ingredients and doing your own prep work.  I think they were about $34 each for what is supposed to be a meal for 4 people.  For me the portions were fine, but for my son, no so much.  I am certain I could make the exact same meals for a lot less money.  It’s just not so easy to get it all put together every week.  So, have you tried one of these services?  What did you think?

I’d love to hear from you.  I look forward to reading each and every one of your comments.  Have a great rest of the week.

Until next time~
