Hey y’all! How are you? Are you eagerly anticipating the holidays or are you already drowning in to-do lists? I look forward to this time of year just like a kid. And for me, the holidays start with decorating our home. I can hardly wait until the day after Thanksgiving when it all starts. When my children were younger my goal was to make our home feel magical. Well, the boys are past those innocent years now. Still, I guess I want a bit of magic even now. I want our home to feel festive and be memorable for my family and any of our friends that stop by. So today, I thought I would share some of my holiday must haves for making my home and yours extra special for the holiday season.
Now let me be clear, I have managed to amass quite a collection of holiday decor, tableware, ornaments, trees…you name it. I seriously do not NEED even one more thing. Truly. However, make no mistake, this does not stop my from adding to my collection by browsing the aisles of Home Goods or elsewhere In fact, I will be on the hunt for a large reindeer ~ sparkly preferably ~ this year. Still, there are some things that are just fun and some things that are MUST HAVES
Let’s start with adding greens. Of course a tree…or two is a MUST. However, I also think it is important to add garland in our home. I love to dress the banister of our stairs. Last year I discovered this garland and I am hooked. It’s fresh cedar and pine, it add that lovely smell to your home and I just think it feels more “special” than the artificial one that I used in the past. In addition, I think it’s a total deal at under $40.
And if you need a little more inspiration for why you NEED to add garland to your decor, feast your eyes on these.
I am totally crushing on the twinkly lights.
Don’t you think the mix of greens is lovely?
This one is my favorite. It’s much simpler than what I usually do, but I adore those long bows.
Feeling inspired yet? I am.
Now, let’s just say the tree itself along with ornaments is a completely different topic. I’m not even going to talk about that one today. So, that aside, I also feel like pillows and cozy throws are another way to give your home a little extra holiday love. I love these plaid pillows.
Or how about these?
And this throw? I mean, it doesn’t even get cozier than this, right?
The pillows on my sofa are really big. I cannot find the right size anywhere. So, I may be making my own pillow covers this year. However, if time gets tight, I’ll be heading to Pottery Barn for some of theirs.
Speaking of Pottery Barn. How cute is this? I think this would be such a fun addition to your home for displaying all those sweet cards you get. I am hoping for a sale soon so I can snag this.
Another fun touch that I’ve kind of gotten into the last couple of years are holiday printables. You can find any number of them on Pinterest or you can make your own. I think adding a few framed holiday sentiments around your home is a special touch.
Or you can take it to a whole new level by doing something like this.
Okay, decor aside, another thing I absolutely love to have is a wonderful smelling home ~ this is especially true at the holidays when everything feels so festive and your home is full of people. My home will not be smelling of fresh-baked treats all the time. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, I stumbled upon this scented oil at Central Market last year. I fell in love! #notjoking I diffused it all winter long because I couldn’t get enough. Well, now I found it here as well. They also make candles and wax melts in the same Frasier Fir scent. I am telling you – order it now. You will not regret it. It smells amazing!
Another thing I love to have to make home feel special and cozy, is music. I love Christmas music playing, but I must admit that while I do love the traditional songs, it’s nice to change things up as well. So, what I really love is some Steve Tyrell playing or Michael Bubble. I think those guys are great for relaxing background music. And rest assured, we will be listening to a lot of Straight No Chaser this season!
Well, that should be enough to get you started this year. I’m telling you sometimes it just takes one new idea or one new decor piece to get you going and ready to deck the halls. I hope you’ve found at least one here.
So, what are some of your holiday home must haves? I’d love to hear about them ~ because I’m always looking for new ideas. 🙂 Share them below in the comments.
Until next time~
