Do you ever feel like you need to change things up a bit? As the weather is warming up and we are full-on summer, I decided to make a change. I wanted to refresh our living room. Make it feel a little brighter and lighter. One quick and easy way to bring a little new life to a space is through the use of color. So this past week, I decided to insert a little color into our space and give it a quick refresh.
In case you don’t remember what it looked like, here is a picture of our living room when I refreshed for spring. It seems like each season means a little ‘fixing things up.’
Here’s a closer look at the pillows. They are mostly lighter blues, grays, and beige. I like them, but they are not very summery, right?
So, I said the best way to spruce things up was to use color. Well, I have no desire to paint this room, but the pillows are a quick and easy way to add some new color. Moreover, they can make a big impact in a space. I wanted to keep the blues but I decided to add some coral to the mix.
I picked up the large, coral pillows at Home Goods. The blue, ruffly pillows are also a Home Good score, but from a while back. They are not new. I just relocated them for this project.
I didn’t like that one in the middle, so it got moved after this photo to my side chairs. These chairs are from Restoration Hardware and I love them. However, all that neutral beige could use a little pop of color as well.
So, I brought over a pop of coral for the chairs as well.
Now, back to the couch. Since I took away one of the pillows, I needed to add a little more. This time I wanted to go for a really fun punch of color. I decided to add these fun pom-pom trim pillows as well.
Cute, right? I whipped those up super quick using pillow covers from Hobby Lobby (wait for them to go 50% off) and gold metallic heat transfer vinyl. I LOVE the way they turned out. Plus, they look great with the other pillows as well.
Now, the pillows did go a long way to sprucing the space up, but I also decided to hit the refresh on the coffee table as well. I swapped out my turquoise tray for a navy blue and I also added the coral vase with greenery.
I also used my “rules” for styling that I talked about here to re-do the console table as well. You can see that I used something tall, something horizontal, and a natural element.
I switched out a few items on the top as well. I love bringing out the seashells from past beach trips. Don’t you think they just feel summery?
And finally, here’s shot of the entire space all styled for summer.
Holy Cow! You’ll have to excuse (& ignore) Mr. LouiseMarie’s shoes that I failed to spot before now. 🙁
So, what do you think? Does it feel a little more summery in the living room? I am happy having a little more color – for now. I am sure I will be changing things up again once September rolls around. Do you try to makeover your living spaces from time to time? I find that if I just move stuff around in my house it feels new again.
I would love to hear your thoughts and any styling advice you would like to share with me. My home is always a work in progress so I relish any new tips. I guess it’s a good thing I enjoy “working” on it. Don’t forget, comment below. Your comments always make me smile. And, you can sign up here to join my email list.
