Red, White, & Blue Hodgepodge

Red, White, & Blue Hodgepodge

Hello friends!  I’m so happy you stopped by.  How was your 4th?  We had a great day with family ~ a cookout, cocktails, fun games, & fireworks.  I love those kind of impromptu gatherings.  Do you prefer to plan ahead or does spur of the moment work for you?  Since I’ve been busy working on a serious home project, I did not get to my normal Wednesday Wondering this week.  So, I’m using today to link up with From This Side of the Pond for a weekly Hodgepodge.  I’d love for you to play along and share your answers to these questions in the comments below.  Okay, here we go!

1. When and where were the best fireworks you’ve ever seen? Speaking of fireworks…do you know your hot buttons? The things people can say and/or do to set you off? When was the last time someone pushed one of your hot buttons?

I actually have two favorites.  One was in Virginia (outside of D.C).  We visited the town of Luray.  Not only was the scenery spectacular, but the small town had a fireworks show on the bank of the river.  It felt so small town, from a time gone-by.  I just loved it.  My other favorite was about 9 years ago.  We were in San Diego for their fireworks on the water.  Not only were the fireworks beautiful, but it was a cool evening and we wore jackets.  Coming from Texas, I’ve never before or since had a 4th celebrated in jackets!

2. Have you hosted any outdoor summer parties this year? Attended any? What makes for a great outdoor party?

I have hosted outdoor parties in the past, but not this year.  It’s really too hot to be really enjoyable here.  I much prefer a fall or spring outdoor party.  I did attend a party this year on a lake.  The weather was great and we had a good time.  I think the people your spending time with make the party.  However, cool drinks and a shady spot are also must-haves around here.  That, and maybe some type of recreation ~ bonus points if it’s pool.

3. What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom means being able to live your life the way you chose.  Believe what you want, live where you want, say and do what you want.  Although I also believe that your freedom comes with the responsibility of not infringing on someone else’s freedoms.  It seems we’ve lost the ability for discourse when we disagree and we’ve also quit carrying about the other person’s feelings and respecting their rights as well.

4. July is National Cell Phone Courtesy month…what annoys you most about people’s cell phone habits?

So much!  One of my biggest pet peeves about cell phone habits is when people are using a hands free headset to talk on the phone as they walk through a store.  On more than one occasion I have thought a person was talking to me, but then realized they were talking into a headset.  Even worse than that is when they’re talking on the phone on speaker!  Really?  Do we all want to hear their conversation?   I feel like surely we can all take a break for our cell phone so as not to subject everyone within earshot of our own personal drama.  Do you agree or am I too sensitive about this?

5. What’s your current summer anthem?

Okay, I am LOVING this one right now.  I challenge you to not move to this one.  🙂

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

I am wanting to host a Christmas in July favorites party.  However, I am wondering if the idea of a favorites party scares people away since you’re asking guests to spend money for the party.  What are your thoughts?  I would love to go to one ~ I really want to host one.  Thoughts???

Until next time~

  1. What’s a favorties party? Christmas in July sounds like fun to me : ) And no, you are not overly sensitive. I don’t think people realize how loud they are on a cell phone.

A favorites party is where each guest brings let’s say 3 of their favorite things & 3 of each one – total of 9 things. Then, guests get to pick their new favorites from fellow party goers. Does that make sense?
It’s funny, once I started reading other people’s responses, many of us said the same thing. Glad to know it’s not just me though. 🙂 Thanks again for hosting.

  2. I work at a University and right outside my office is a bench. What drives me nuts is when students sit there and then talk on their phone on speaker. Like, are you kidding me??

I always love to hear what's on your mind. Please comment below!
